About MixChoir

Welcome to MixChoir – the North Shore’s newest mixed adult choir!

MixChoir is a community choir for adults who love to sing and want to share their passion for music with others.  MixChoir members commit to one year of choir rehearsals and practicing their music at home. This program is for enthusiastic singers who have a love of music and an ability to match pitch. No auditions required.

WHERE DO WE MEET?
St. Andrew’s United Church at 1044 St. Georges Ave in North Vancouver. *Note: While we may be rehearsing in a church, we are not affiliated.

We are grateful to rehearse and sing on the traditional unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) people.

WEEKLY REHEARSAL TIME FOR 2023/2024:
7 – 8:30pm Thursdays

Suzanne Fulton - Artistic Director (she/her)

Suzanne Fulton (she/her) began studying the voice almost 40 years ago.  She grew up singing as a soloist in festivals and concerts, singing in school choirs, and singing in community choirs in Kamloops, BC.  Her passion for music eventually led her to UBC to complete a Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance.  This degree offered Suzanne the skills required to sing a soloist in oratorio and opera performances in Canada and in Europe in famous works such as Mozart’s “Le Nozze Di Figaro” (Cherubino), Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and Handel’s “Messiah” (soloist).

Suzanne worked as a private voice teacher and discovered her love for teaching.  She then returned to UBC for a Bachelor in Education and became a music teacher (West Vancouver Schools).  Suzanne worked at Gleneagles Elementary for many years and currently runs both the choral program at West Vancouver Secondary School and the West Vancouver Schools’ Honour Choir Program.  Suzanne’s passion for music and education eventually brought her back to UBC to complete a Masters in Music Education.  Over the years, Suzanne’s choirs have won gold medal standings at festivals, toured Europe, sung at the opening ceremonies of the Paralympic Games, and worked with countless world-class clinicians.

Suzanne is very excited to be launching MixChoir, her next exciting choir initiative. She feels strongly that everyone has a voice and that music is an excellent vehicle for connection and belonging.

Hey-Jung Choi - Collaborative Pianist (she/her)

Hey-Jung Choi has her Masters in Music (Piano Performance) from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (USA) and her Bachelor of Music from the Kyung Hee University of Seoul (South Korea).  She has performed as a concert pianist in Japan, Korea, Europe, the USA, and Canada.  Hey-Jung Choi assists the music teacher at Hollyburn Elementary School (West Vancouver, BC).  She is also the pianist and director of the Silk Purse Singers (West Vancouver) and the accompanist for the West Vancouver Schools’ Honour Choir Program.  A mother of 2, devoted wife, and piano teacher as well, Hey-Jung believes in the power of music and is an excellent member of the MixChoir team.
